Highdown
is an organic farm
and a member of The Soil Association .
We are committed to sustainable farming, preserving the countryside and
protecting the local environment, this commitment extends to the
holiday
accommodation as well. We are members of the Green Business
Tourism
Scheme and our Green policy is under continuous development, current
policies
include:-
- Recycling wherever possible
including farm waste such as bailer twine & plastic silage wrap
- Providing a spring water supply
for the farm buildings and water troughs on the farm
- Using ‘Hippos’ in the toilet
cisterns to conserve water
- Providing ecologically friendly, biodegradable cleaning products
- Installing low energy light
bulbs where practical
- Replacing appliances with ones that have an A or above energy rating
- Using recycled products such as
bin liners, kitchen roll, toilet rolls.
- Encouraging visitors to explore
the farm, meet the animals and observe the wildlife and fauna.
- Inviting visitors to watch the
milking and are explain about the principles of organic farming.
- Providing an organic delivery
service of locally produced fruit & vegetables & other
provisions. Supplying information on local farm shops and places to eat
in the area.
- Implementing a No Smoking
policy in the cottages
As a guest at Highdown Farm we ask for your support in helping to protect the environment too. Below are some ways in which your help can make a difference whilst on holiday:-
- Shop locally – local shops
often stock home made goods, shopping locally also supports local jobs
& services and reduces the need for long car journeys
- Eat out locally, pubs and
restaurants in the area often provide home cooked and locally sourced
food & ales
- Visit a nearby local
attractions nearby such as Killerton House & Gardens,
Quadworld, Diggerland
- Try to take one car free day
during your holiday, perhaps by spending time exploring the farm.
